Right down the road from the Ranch is beautiful Point Lobos with lots of hiking. To beat the crowds, try to arrive early in the morning, especially on weekends. Parking is limited and, when it is full, operates on a one in, one out basis.
Overlooking the 18th hole at Pebble. Great place for a drink and some bites! They'll cover your 17-mile drive entrance fee--just share your receipt with your server.
Masses held daily, or you can just make like a California 4th grader and learn about the Missions and take too many pictures. It's around the corner from the Ranch.
Mike Boston knows chowder, and he says it's delicious. Mainers welcome to ridicule.
Website shows beach rules. Head into town, find the first parking spot you see, and walk straight down Ocean Ave to the beach. Lots of dogs (we've seen Wegman with his Weimaraners AND Tillman, the surfing bulldog, at the Carmel beach), lots of art studios, lots of boutiques. We love The Hat Shop. And the Sockshop. We are simple this way.
Kayaking in the slough is one of our favorite activities to do when family and friends visit. We always see plenty of wildlife, including sea otters, harbor seals, jelly fish and migratory birds. It's breathtaking.
Sanctuary is top notch, small boats, no small children.
