Erin and Tony had been in the same group of friends for many years - Erin's lifelong best friend (and MOH, Rachel) is married to one of Tony’s best friends (Kunal, groomsmen). After college, Erin moved away from home, first to PA for medical school, and then to Chicago for residency/the start of her career, eventually making her way back to Buffalo. They are both Bills fanatics and her friends had joked for years that she just needed to find her future husband at a (Bills) tailgate. Over the years, their friend group converged into a massive tailgate, and Tony and Erin reconnected there - her friends were right!
