At the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley is Solvang, a charming Danish-themed town often celebrated as one of the cutest stops along the California coast. While it’s a popular destination for visitors, it’s also a place close to our hearts—Thomas’s family has called Solvang home for over 60 years, since his grandmother and mother moved here from Denmark. Be sure to wander the streets and check out our favorite spots including The Book Loft, Good Seed Coffee, The Home Connection, and Ingeborg’s Danish Chocolate.
Just 15 minutes from the coast, the area offers plenty of beautiful beaches for those who love sun, sand, and surf. Some of our favorites include Gaviota, Refugio, and El Capitan. For even more options, the beaches in Santa Barbara are also nearby and perfect for a day by the ocean.
For guests who enjoy sinking a few birdie putts, there are two local courses we recommend. Zaca Creek Golf Course, the closest to the venue, is a charming 9-hole course—perfect for a quick round. For a full 18-hole experience, Alisal River Course in Solvang offers a par-72 public course set against lovely mountain views. After your round, relax at the Alisal River Grill, where you can enjoy drinks and a meal while taking in the beautiful scenery.
Nestled in California’s beautiful wine country, the area offers plenty of options for wine enthusiasts. For a full winery experience, we recommend Gainey, Sanford, Fess Parker, Buttonwood, or Brander. If you prefer tasting rooms, Solvang has a charming selection, and the main street of Los Olivos is home to over 30 tasting rooms—perfect for a tasting tour. No matter where you go, you’re sure to enjoy the wonderful flavors the valley has to offer!
Grapes aren't your thing? No worries! The valley has plenty of hops to enjoy. For craft beer enthusiasts, we recommend Firestone Walker (home of 805), Fig Mountain Brew, and Solvang Brew. All are conveniently located within 15 minutes of our recommended lodging, making them perfect for a relaxed afternoon or a night out.
The Santa Ynez Valley is full of wonderful places to eat! For a taste of traditional Danish cuisine, we recommend Bit of Denmark or Solvang Restaurant, where you can try the classic morning favorite, Aebleskiver. Looking for the bride and groom’s personal favorites? Stop by El Rancho Market’s Deli—Thomas loves the Jordan Sandwich (one of the best sandwiches this side of the Mississippi), and Erin can’t get enough of the shrimp and chips.
For guests looking to add a little adventure to their weekend, there are plenty of fun options nearby. Try ziplining at Highline Adventures, test your luck at the Chumash Casino, or explore the scenic hiking trails at Nojoqui Falls Park. All of these activities are conveniently located within 15 minutes of our recommended lodging.
Have a soft spot for flightless birds? This is the place for you. Feed them, pet them, witness their greatness. You can't lose when you go to Ostrichland.
