Like many of our favorite love stories, we started out as just friends. We met in pharmacy school at the University of Florida in Jacksonville. You may find this hard to believe, but we both sat in the front row of every class. One day at the end of a semester after our Critical Care final we went out for drinks with the class, Patrick asked Erin to dance, and the rest is history... A year and a half later, we are headed to the airport for residency interviews and come to dead stop on I-295. After sitting there helplessly, it was just 30 minutes to departure and cars start moving. We rushed to the airport and ran through to make it to our gate just seconds before the doors closed. In Charlotte Erin went on to catch a connecting flight to Memphis to interview at Methodist and Patrick on to Rochester to interview at Mayo. At the time, we had no idea that’s where we’d spend the next two years, but it’s funny how things work out! Two years of long-distance during residency was hard but we were determined to the make the best of it. We visited each other often and met for weekend getaways in Seattle, The Keys anywhere in between. We haven’t had to run through another airport to catch a flight together but we’ve been pretty excited to reunite at many along the way and we wouldn’t trade that for anything. After finishing our Critical Care residencies (remember how we met?) we accepted positions at Mayo in Rochester, MN. Shortly after Erin moved to Rochester, we decided to take a trip to Minnehaha Falls and reminisce on our past 3.5 years together by going through a box of memories she had been collecting. This box had everything from boarding passes to post cards from Poland and other sweet mementos. Just as it started to rain and we were packing up, Patrick pulled out another box, this one with an engagement ring inside. Since then we’ve been adapting to Polar Vortexes and blizzards, learning to ski and snowboard and picking up on the Minnesotan lingo, you betcha!
