A salty Navy Senior Chief once said, "If the Navy wanted you to have a spouse, they'd issue you one!" Well, in our case they kind of did. Though, neither of us ever imagined we would find true love at the bus stop outside the Personnel Support Detachment office on the Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan! It was January 16th, 2020. Josh had just arrived to Japan and took the shuttle bus from Narita airport to report to his new duty station of Naval Hospital Yokosuka. Erin had already been stationed there for about 18 months, and was "voluntold" to go meet this new physical therapist to help him get settled in. Both of us were very pleasantly surprised by the person we encountered at the bus stop! An immediate affinity and friendship deepened into love during our subsequent adventures in Japan. We weathered the COVID-19 pandemic together, and explored much of Japan, enjoying the land, culture and food and making many friends and cherished memories along the way. We transferred out of Japan in May 2022; Josh deployed to Djibouti, Africa, and Erin reported to Naval Medical Center San Diego. During our separation we were fortunate to have a brief getaway in Crete, Greece adding to our many happy travel experiences. Josh returned to San Diego in February 2023, where he now works with the Navy Special Warfare community. Once back together, we continued to enjoy traveling -- from Joshua Tree, to Sequoia, to New Hampshire and the coast of Maine, and even as far as Scotland. On one long weekend in October, we scheduled a very spontaneous last minute trip to Yosemite Valley. Josh surprised Erin with a proposal and a beautiful ring at the top of Glacier Point hike with the backdrop of a stunning view of Half Dome. If you hadn't guessed already, Erin joyfully and enthusiastically said "yes!" During the past year, we have been preparing for our marriage and future family through Erin's conversion to Judaism and growing involvement with the Ohr Shalom synagogue here in San Diego. The wonderful Rabbi Scott Meltzer has been facilitating this process and we're delighted that he will also be officiating our wedding. We're not sure yet where the Navy will take this PT/OT duo next, but very grateful that wherever it is, we'll be sharing the adventure together!
