Jorge first messaged me on the online dating app Hinge, but looking back I “liked” his picture first. We had been talking for a few weeks, but I was growing impatient that he hadn’t asked me out yet. Finally he asked if he could “get my number before winter”, to which I said, “What are you doing tomorrow?” We met for lunch at Garcia’s in Lincoln Square and I was late but he had a margarita waiting for me, earning him major brownie points. We spent 5 hours there talking nonstop and have been together ever since.
On our trip to California for Jorge’s cousin’s wedding, we went for dinner Friday night in Santa Barbara. I knew he had the ring, but after he didn’t propose like I thought Thursday night in Redondo Beach, I wasn’t sure he was going to. We had dinner on the pier but it got late and cold, and instead of walking on the beach as planned, I insisted we go back to the car. Flustered I ruined his perfect proposal plan, Jorge gave me the ring in the car. We called his sister Shirley to share the news as she had been in on the planning. We drove to the property in Carpinteria to see his Aunt and cousins and share the news with them that night. The next day on Ventura Beach, Shirley helped us recreate the moment and capture photos of Jorge getting on one knee and re-proposing.
