We don't really remember... it was 12 years ago. Just kidding. It was a classic 2010's high school sweetheart story. Friend introduces us (shout out Ben). Boy texts girl. Girl stares at her phone with a huge smile on her face for the next four hours. What we know for sure is that our first date was at Duffy's Sports Grill and that Erin definitely got a buffalo chicken sandwich.
This memory is much more vivid: Erin and Brenden were vacationing in Switzerland. The trip began with lots of cold rain and the flu. The sick went away, but the weather stuck around. With rain on the radar, Erin scratched their plans — not knowing that Brenden had a surprise in the works. But he pivoted like a pro, and they were off to Lugano instead. The whole train ride to the Italian region, Erin and Brenden gawked out of the window at the snow-capped mountains (imagine Whoville). A ring box sat in Brenden's pocket the entire trip. When they arrived, they walked along the picturesque, turquoise lake. They took a few photos, the sun gleaming in their eyes. They stumbled upon a small alcove along the walkway. Brenden offered to set up his phone against a water fountain to take some photos of both of them. When he walked back to Erin, he looked in the eyes and said "I love you." She knew this was it. She laughed as she cried tears of joy. Because this moment that was made out to be such a huge, monumental thing... at the end of the day it was just the same two people who, at 15 years old, sat on the couch and shared I love you's. Not knowing that some years later they'd be alone on an lake in a small Swiss-Italian town, agreeing to embark on their biggest adventure yet.
