We met on eHarmony. Erin was intrigued by Alexander's profile, especially because he had listed Jane Eyre as one of his favorite books. She asked him about it and our messages quickly became pages long. He asked her on a date after a few days of talking. We spend four hours wandering through the flagship Half Price Books, and the rest is history!
We went camping, something we’d already done a couple of times and an activity Alexander introduced Erin to. We got to this really lovely campsite after dark on Friday night. On Saturday after breakfast, Alexander suggested we do some reading, and then said, oh, hey, before we start, will you help me workshop this poem I’ve been working on. (He has already mentioned to Erin that he wanted to do this several days before, and so she wasn’t suspicious). He then read this really lovely double sonnet that ended with “will you marry me?” and smoothly slid down to one knee as he did so. He put the ring —a vintage one from the Victorian period—in one of those books-that-is-really-a-storage-box. The whole thing was low-key and intimate and romantic and just perfect. The funny thing was, Erin had been wondering if he was going to propose that weekend, and had just succeeded in convincing herself that it wasn’t going to happen, so she was extra surprised!
