In 2018 Isaac was the Homecoming chair for his fraternity Alpha Gamma Rho. That same year, I was the homecoming chair for my sorority Delta Gamma. As fate would have it, AGR and DG were paired for homecoming that year! After meeting at the Florida game tailgate at the AGR house, My Matron of Honor Claire Pruitt, said "I can't believe you're going to marry the AGR homecoming chair!". I immediately said it would NEVER happen, until it did. Slowly, then all at once, we found out that we make each other the best versions of ourselves. No matter what stress or problems came their way. On November 3rd 2018, we won Homecoming together and Isaac asked me to be his girlfriend!
When I knew I was going to ask Erin to marry me, I knew there would be some stuff to figure out. Between the ring to the celebration after I asked her, it was a wild ride. The day I went to get the ring, I knew I would have to be quick. I flew to Murfreesboro to pick it up and did everything I could to get back before she found out I wasn’t even in the county any more. I made it all the way there and back to Cookeville before I got the phone call. “Where are you? Is everything ok?” Busted. The only thing I could say at that point is that I said I had errands to run and I’d be back in a bit. She absolutely knew. The day of the question, I was a nervous wreck. We do a weekly date night and I told her I wanted to spend a whole Saturday doing the things we couldn’t do on Friday nights. We started off getting breakfast at one of her favorite bakeries and then we went to check out the neighborhood I’m working in. After that, we stopped off at the Humane Society to look at the kittens they had. After that, was a walk around the Alcoa Duck Pond. Once we got there, I quickly ran to the back door and tried to be as sneaky as I could as I shoved this huge box with a ring in it in my back pocket. I leaned out from behind the door and help up my now empty rain jacket to ask Erin if she thought we’d need it. Sunny and probably 75 degrees. Of course we didn’t need it. We got almost all the way around the pond and back to the pavilions and I knew I’d have to ask soon. I asked her if we could sit for a bit at one of the picnic tables. As she was sitting down, I got down on one knee and told her how much she meant to me. I told her I knew for a long time I wanted to marry her and wanted to make it official. I don’t think I started breathing again until we got back to my apartment with family and friends to celebrate. Claire did an amazing job getting people together and decorating and FaceTiming in anyone that couldn’t be there. I don’t think we could have had a better day at all.
