Long story short, we met through skiing. Kim had unknowingly become friends with some of Erik's closest college friends (shout out to Boulder Freeride) and shared a ski condo and awesome times with them every winter. Erik was off on other adventures, so we never crossed paths (except once at our friend Alyssa's birthday...but we'll share that story another day). Flash forward to the 2015/2016 ski season, Erik finally joined the condo for the winter. After months of skiing together and many missed signals, we finally figured it out on a snowy sled adventure and have been skiing together ever since!
Kim's family has a cabin in Northern Michigan that is a very special place for both of us. We have been up there together for the past few summers, and I knew there was no better place to ask Kim to marry me. However, I soon realized that I only had a few weeks before our summer trip to the cabin to get a ring made... After some sage guidance from friends we arrived in Michigan with the ring in tow. After a dinner out in Charlevoix, we were hanging outside at the cabin with Kim's family and my sister and it finally seemed like there was a free moment to get Kim alone. We walked down to the dock just after sunset, and at the end of the dock I asked Kim to marry me. With the lake to ourselves and the ring on Kim's hand (and not in the lake) we came back up to the cabin engaged! Kim's Uncle Carl came over from his cabin next door with his guitar and played and sang with us all night. We are excited to have you all celebrate with us Up North in this place that means so much to us!
