Our story, in its entirety, is a testament to God's grace, love, and faithfulness in always being true to His Word and character. After years of searching for love, pleasure, and acceptance apart from God—and consequently enduring various heartaches and struggles—we both finally reached the point where we were ready to fully surrender and submit our lives and plans to Jesus. This was followed by a season of growth, during which we grew closer to our Lord Jesus, allowing Him to shape and transform us for the better as individuals. As we deepened our relationship with God, we each reached a place where, despite our desire to someday marry and have a family, we were willing to let go of those dreams if it was not part of God's will for our lives. But ironically, the Bible is true when it says in Psalms, "Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." Friends encouraged both of us to try Christian online dating, and we eventually met on the app Upward. Whether it was a crazy coincidence or God's perfect timing, Dan had set his filters to only see people within 50 miles, and wouldn’t you know, Erika traveled for work. One day, deciding to browse the app one last time, Erika logged in during her lunch break, and—just by chance—she was close enough for the app to suggest her profile to Dan's. And the rest was history. After the usual pleasantries of introducing ourselves, Erika kicked things off with her "romantic" opening line: "Hey, what's your favorite movie? I'm a movie nerd too." Over the next month and a half, long and sometimes obnoxiously lengthy phone calls ensued, covering everything from our faith to our dreams for the future, and of course, plenty of nerdy topics that we won't list here. Eventually, we decided to meet in person. After a couple of awkward first dates, on Valentine's Day, Dan asked Erika to be his girlfriend. To which, as we all know by now, she said yes. In the following months, we discovered that not only did we enjoy each other's company, but God used our relationship to bring healing to old wounds. Most importantly, we inspired and challenged each other to grow closer to Jesus, seeking Him more as we grew closer to one another. So, amidst the fall leaves in October, Dan couldn't wait any longer and proposed to Erika. While she technically never said "yes," she took the ring and told him, "Well, you already know what my answer is!" As we move into this next season of our lives together, we pray that our story will encourage others and point them to our loving Heavenly Father, who truly works all things for the good of those who seek Him.
