We met when Tobias was playing a show with his band at the time at a local house known for hosting live music. I arrived way too early, so I was watching as all the bands loaded in their gear and helped set up for the party. We noticed each other and spent the whole night talking after his set. We started hanging out the following week and just never stopped, making it official in May of that year. To this day, going to shows is one of our favorite things to do together and I’m so glad I decided to go to the one that started it all.
Tobias always wanted to take a trip by train, so for our 5th anniversary we decided to get Amtrak tickets to Chicago, one of our favorite cities. On the day we were celebrating our anniversary, we had a great time exploring Garfield Park Conservatory, adventuring through the city on the buses and trains, having a romantic dinner, and seeing an experimental music show at a theater style venue called Constellation. When we got back to our Airbnb, we remembered that our host had mentioned there was rooftop access from the balcony. We managed to climb up the scrappy ladder and through the scuttle hole to see the most amazing view of the Chicago skyline. It was windy and chilly and I had decided to go up there barefoot for some reason, but when Tobias asked me what my favorite part of the day was, I responded “right now” and I meant it. That was when he said he had something to give me, pulled out a ring and asked if I would marry him. After a few moments of excited shock, it was an enthusiastic “yes!”
