It all began in kindergarten — we met as little kids and spent the next 12 years going to the same school. Over the years, we grew up side by side, but it wasn’t until high school that we truly became best friends. When we went to college, we drifted apart, but we still made an effort to stay in touch. After college, we found ourselves single and our paths started crossing more often — at mutual friends’ events, casual hangouts, and eventually, gym sessions together. Slowly but surely, we started reconnecting in a new way. One day, after a workout at LA Fitness, Erick asked if I wanted to go to a rooftop bar that evening. I panicked a little and suggested inviting our friends since we had never gone out alone before. I left saying I’d think about it, but deep down, I knew this felt different. After some self-talk and a leap of courage, I decided to take the chance. That night, Erick picked me up dressed way too nicely for a casual outing and smelling like half a bottle of cologne. He asked if I was hungry and if I wanted to eat before the bar, I said sure, not knowing he had already made reservations at Paperfish in Brickell earlier that day — just hoping I’d say yes. The dinner felt unusual, exciting, and like… a date. It was unfamiliar territory for us, but somehow, it felt right. Later that night, we had a long phone call where we finally confessed our feelings for each other. At first, it was scary risking a friendship that had meant so much for so long. But we took the leap, and it turned out to be the best decision we ever made. Now, we’re here — getting married — and we couldn’t be more grateful that our story turned out this way. I’m marrying my best friend, and every step led us here.
