In the years following college, Laura and Eric were focused on launching their careers and learning how to survive in Chicago. One cold but sunny Sunday, mutual friends invited Laura and Eric to their apartment for a semi-weekly ritual known as Art Day. The rules of Art Day were simple: Gather good friends, sit close together, and create something purely for the sake of creation. No ulterior motives or 9-to-5 work allowed. On this particular Art Day, Eric was drawing birthday card for a friend while Laura was painting an ocean-scape in acrylic. Eric took the opportunity to ask if Laura would be willing to give him painting lessons—she agreed. (6 years later she still has not). The conversation turned to the neighborhoods each of them lived and worked, and in an incredible coincidence the two found out that they had worked in the same building. This led Eric to suggest that the two should grab lunch someday, and some day soon after, they did.
