Eric had pretty much given up on dating apps, but during a Catholic pilgrimage to World Youth Day in Portugal, a fellow pilgrim encouraged him to give CatholicMatch one last try. Around that same time, Angel was about to delete the same app for good, but she saw one final notification and felt a little nudge to check it. That moment changed everything. Since then, it’s been a real journey, navigating busy lives from different cities, with Angel in Cedar Park and Eric in San Antonio (117 miles/2.3 hours apart). They only got to see each other once a week, but every visit felt like a gift. Sharing Sunday Mass together became their favorite way to reconnect, pray, and grow in faith as a couple. What looked like a coincidence was really God working behind the scenes. A lo largo del día, Angel notó que Eric estaba nervioso, pero decidió concentrarse en estar presente en un lugar tan sagrado. Nunca imaginó regresar ahí con alguien a quien amaba. By December, Eric felt certain he wanted to propose. In spring 2024, he prepared in secret and even borrowed a copper ring Angel wore to learn her size. When they planned a trip to Mexico City to visit the Virgen de Guadalupe, Eric chose July 3 because three is Angel’s favorite number and seven is his. The day before the proposal, Eric jokingly pretended to propose with a ring pop at Chapultepec Castle, convincing Angel that a proposal was years away. On July 3, they visited the Basílica de Guadalupe and began with a penance knee-crawl. Throughout the day, Angel noticed Eric’s nervousness but focused on being present in such a sacred place. She never imagined returning there with someone she loved. Eric, meanwhile, waited for the moment God would indicate as the right time to propose, hoping everything would be perfect. Unknown to him, Angel had also hoped to say “I love you” for the first time that day. That evening, during a rosary inside the basilica, Angel finally whispered the words she had carried in her heart. Eric said “I love you” back, and her relief became the confirmation he had been praying for. After the rosary, they approached the altar and genuflected before the tilma. As they began to exit, Eric called Angel back, and she turned to see him standing in the golden light of the tilma’s frame. There, before the sacred image, Eric knelt and asked her to be his wife. She joyfully said yes. What began as two private intentions became a moment of divine timing and the beginning of their forever.
