It's a tale as old as time really... I was at the bar of Gypsy kitchen getting drinks with my roommate when I saw Eric walk in. He was hard to miss since he's 6'4 and was wearing an outfit that resembled Jake from State Farm. I kept trying to get his attention from across the bar, but in true Eric fashion, he missed my hints. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and introduce myself. I began walking over (others would refer to it more as storming) and panicked. I stopped dead, about 5ft from Eric, and pretended I was grabbing a table. It was a Thursday so no one was out and as you can imagine that looked pretty dumb. Thankfully, Eric's very loud, very outgoing friend (Hayden Dunn, I'm sure you've met him) introduced himself and Eric to me. The best I could come up with was "what's with the Khakis?" he replied "What's with the boots?" (Dr. Martens I'd like to add). WAY too much alcohol and a nights worth of Eric's dance moves later, we went our separate ways. I blew Eric off after he asked to take me out (I never said I was smart), but thankfully Hayden was VERY persistent in his desire to take my roommate out so we went on a double date. Hayden and my roommate didn't pan out, BUT were engaged ;)
Knowing Rebecca was the one was the easy part, planning an engagement during a pandemic, however... not so much. The original plan was to take a trip to Miami for the 4th of July Weekend and propose over breakfast (her favorite). We got the news they had shut down Miami for the holiday weekend, so that was canceled. In hopes of salvaging the weekend, I booked a trip to Savannah. The day before we left we were informed we had COVID, so fast forward to Rebecca's birthday and we've been trapped in the 850 sqft apartment losing our minds, and to add to it I'm trying to find a way to surprise her. At this point, the ring is burning a hole in my pocket. After some mexican food and a bottle of champagne, I turned on our song "Beyond" by Leon Bridges and we began slow dancing in the living room. Halfway through the song, I pulled the ring out of my pocket, got down on one knee, blacked out, and now I'm engaged. Best day Ever!!
