How We Met & Fell in Love

More Than Just An Internship

Eric moved to Winston-Salem, NC for an internship opportunity with B/E Aerospace while in college at Georgia Tech. I was living in Winston-Salem, NC and working as a Registered Nurse in a local Emergency Department. As most people meet in our day and age, the internet brought us together. During Eric’s second month of living in Winston-Salem, we decided to officially meet and our first date took us to the “oh so fancy” East Coast Wings because Eric REALLY wanted chicken wings. After some time, we decided to stay friends as Eric prepared to go back to GA to finish his remaining year at Georgia Tech. While Eric was in school, our friendship continued to grow and develop. On December 6, 2014, the night of the ACC Football Championship in Charlotte, NC, we started officially dating again and have been inseparable ever since.

The Proposal

Lady of the Lake

I had a plan for the proposal and needed Megan to choose a location for a “vacation” during the Labor Day weekend in 2017. We looked and the plan was to fly to Spokane, WA and drive four hours to Whitefish, MT to hike in Glacier National Park. Six months prior, I made plans for Megan and I to fly in a boat plane that would take off from the marina at the lodge for an aerial view of Glacier National Park. Following this, she was to be surprised with a private sunset lake tour on the lodge boat, Lady of the Lake. I hired a photographer to play as a deckhand and when it was going to be time for the “complimentary sunset photo”, I would drop to one knee and pop the question. However, none of this happened.... Prior to our trip, there was a lightning strike in Glacier National Park and a forest fire caused the area to be under a severe smoke hazard. On our last day, we headed to the restaurant to wait for the plane. I began to receive texts from the pilot that visibility was too bad to land on the lake and she had to cancel the tour. A little later, the boat captain messaged me saying that he couldn’t take us on the lake due to how thick the smoke was. Panicked, I talked to the photographer who reassured me and talked to the concierge - they came up with a plan. The concierge came by and advised us that the pilot felt bad for cancelling and she had paid for champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. They had pulled the Lady of the Lake to the front of the dock and we watched the sunset. The photographer hid amongst the boats to take pictures and the lodge employees brought out the restaurant guests to join them on porch to watch. When I popped the question and Megan said “Yes!”, everyone broke out in cheers.
