Eric and I first met while at a friend's house, just before going downtown for the night. I was sitting in the living room, halfway watching whatever was playing on the television. Eric came over, introduced himself, and attempted to sit down on the couch beside me to chat. He misjudged the landing, and ended up sitting halfway ON me (awkward!). After some small talk, our group of friends headed downtown, and Eric and I didn't have any other interactions for the rest of the night. That night, Chelsea, the maid of honor, must've seen a spark; she decided to try her hand at matchmaking. For the next several weeks, Chelsea kept telling me how "smitten" Eric was with me, while telling Eric how "interested" I was in him. We had no idea that Chelsea was scheming behind our backs the entire time! The rest is history.
Eric planned a perfect first date! He showed his adventurous side when he drove us to L'Escalade Fitness, an indoor rock climbing gym in Lexington. We spent a few hours scaling up the rock walls, then rappelling down. The belly laugh of the night came when a 3 year-old-girl pointed up at me mid-climb and asked Eric, "Is that your mom?" After, we went to West Sixth Brewing for a drink and bite to eat.
Eric's proposal was such a surprise! We made plans to attend a festive event at Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate. The night began with Christmas caroling outside the mansion, followed by an annual Illumination of Christmas lights on the grounds. It was beautiful, but freezing outside! I thought Eric's fidgeting must've been due to the chilly temperature. We made our way inside for a candlelight tour of the mansion. We loved seeing it decorated for Christmas! At the end of the tour, Eric asked a passerby to take our photo in front of the mansion. At the count of 3, he got down on one knee and asked me to spend forever with him.
We were supposed to be married on June 20. 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to postpone until a later date. We are so excited for October and hope that we will all be able to come together to celebrate our marriage safely.
