Colorado is one of our favorite places in the world, and we hope you'll love it as much as we do! Whether you're just in town for the weekend or extending your trip to explore the beautiful Rocky Mountains, here are some of our recommendations for the Denver area and beyond.
Washington Park is the neighborhood we call home, so we might be biased - but we think it's pretty great! The park itself is a beautiful place to take a walk, ride a bike, rent a paddle boat on Smith lake, play tennis, volleyball, or basketball, explore the gardens, or just lounge in the lawns! Some of our favorite spots in the area include The Molecule Effect coffee/wine bar, Lucile's for an awesome creole style brunch, and Olivia for exceptional handmade Italian (make sure to reserve in advance!)
Cherry Creek North is a beautiful, upscale outdoor shopping and dining area, adjacent to the Cherry Creek Mall. They have abundant coffee shops, work out studios, shopping, restaurants, bars, and more to explore! Some of our favorites in this area include Toro (their bottomless brunch is awesome!) and Quality Italian.
The River North Art District is a more urban area that has tons of art murals and studios to appreciate, along with a hub of trendy restaurants and bars. Some of our go-tos are: Denver Central Market, a collection of local food and beverage vendors so there's a little something for everyone; Dio Mio for tasty homemade pastas; and Odell Brewing Company for some Colorado based beers.
Downtown Denver is where many of the larger tourist attractions lie - here are some of our favorite things to do in the area! Check out Meow Wolf for a one of a kind interactive art exhibition. It's a fun and trippy experience good for adults and kids! Depending on the day, you may be able to catch a Rockies game at Coors Field. 16th Street is a large outdoor mall that has a variety of shopping, food, and bars to peruse! We also recommend checking out the Dairy Block for a fun collection of vendors to enjoy.
The Lower Highlands neighborhood of Denver is a cute, residential area with a lot to offer! Spend an evening at Avaniti : a modern day food hall with a huge collection of food and beverage vendors; share some tapas with some friends and enjoy an incredible view at El Five; or top off your night with a cone from cult favorite Little Man Ice Cream.
While technically located about 20-30 minutes from Denver in Morrison, CO, we just couldn't have this list without including Red Rocks! If you're in town and see a concert that interests you - we'd definitely encourage you to check it out! If not, you can also go to Red Rocks during the day to take in the beautiful scenery, learn more about its history at their museum, and enjoy a local hike nearby.
Another nice day trip from Denver, Golden is about half an hour from Denver, but starts to get you into that mountain town feel. Explore many of the hikes in the area, enjoy great restaurants and bars with mountain views, or take a tour of the Coors Brewery - you're sure to have a fun day in Golden!
If you're planning on staying for more than just the wedding weekend - Estes Park is definitely a place we'd recommend checking out! It's only an hour and a half from Denver, but takes you into the mountains and offers tons to do. It's home to Rocky Mountain National Park - an incredible region with breathtaking hikes and sight seeing, so make sure to make a reservation (click the button below) and schedule some time in! After your outdoor adventures, downtown Estes Park has tons of cute shops, delicious restaurants, and fun breweries and bars to entertain you! If you're feeling gusty, you could grab a drink or even stay at the Stanley Hotel - the hotel filmed in Steven King's The Shining! No matter what you do, you'll be sure to have an incredible time in Estes Park, and will probably make some elk friends along the way!
Beaver Creek and Vail are neighboring areas about 2 hours west of Denver. From exploring beautiful mountain hikes, horseback riding, and other summer nature activities, to heading to Beaver Creek Village or Vail Village to try out wonderful restaurants, bars, and shopping, it's easy to see why Beaver Creek and Vail are two of our favorite towns in Colorado!
Glenwood Springs is a fun and eclectic town with lots of great restaurants, art, and shopping. It's also home to the Glenwood Hot Springs - a fun place to relax and take a dip in the cooler mountain evenings. Close by is our favorite hike in Colorado - Hanging Lake! Be sure to get a reservation in advance (click the button below), as they only allow so many cars in a day.
