The First Date

July 18th 2008

They say that some things happen for a reason, I say we make our own luck. It was only by chance that I happened to walk into that Starbucks that day and request a transfer. Little did I know I was about to begin a whole new chapter and meet the love of my life. As I worked alongside Eric, I couldn’t help but be charmed by his mischievous grin and the personality that went with it. One day during a closing shift, he asked me out to see the premier of the Dark Knight and I could barely contain my excitement as I happily agreed. I had never stayed out late to see a movie so the next day, I took a nap so I could make sure I was ready for the big date. Little did I realize, he had called me multiple times that afternoon to confirm our tickets. I woke up from my nap, devastated that I probably lost my shot…but he waited for me. So I returned the favor. Later that night, when I made it to the Tik Tok diner, I waited and waited for Eric to show. He ended up being 40 mins late! I almost left but something told me he was worth it and he was. He came out of the train station with that same grin and a smothered me with a big hug and an apology. From that moment on, him and I never left each others side. Here we are today 15 years later, waiting together to add yet another chapter of our lives. Marriage.

The Proposal

Sept 20th 2018

A few summers ago, Ilona and I went on vacation it was one of our first getaways as a couple. At the time Lona was feeling down so I wanted to do something special, something to uplift her spirits. We went to Disney World something that I knew she always wanted to do. We dined at the Beauty and the Beast castle had “the grey stuff” it was delicious. We shopped, we dined I wanted to make sure she forgot about all her problems and know that no matter what she was going through there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. As we got close to the end of our vacation I can feel she was still a bit melancholy but I knew our life was going to change forever so I had to keep a straight face. During the vacation I had arrange for our close friends David and Javon to decorate our house with rose pedals and candles just like the Friends episode “The One with the Proposal” her favorite episode. I was a nervous wreck but I knew it’ll all pay off. When we arrived, I had to keep quiet and keep dibs on our friends to make sure everything was going smoothly. I don’t have the best poker face and she always knows when I’m up to something but I had to keep the charade going. When we arrived the entire house was covered in candles and rose pedals leading to the center of the room. She couldn’t believe it, she instantly was brought to tears. I had a whole speech prepared but looking into her eyes I got overwhelmed and could barely get a word out. In a whirlwind of emotion, I finally asked her to marry me, she said yes! As “The Dark Knight” played in the background we embraced and I told her I would always be her and she would be mine. As I heard David yell from the bedroom “we’re dying here” I knew I had recreated the perfect moment; her own Friends episode.
