Why Lost River Cave?

Answer

When we decided to get married, we began a process that was very important to us: finding the most interesting and different event venues available to us. We then found out about Lost River Cave, a park that contains a limestone cave system unique to central Kentucky, as well as forested trails, springs, and wetlands. Most importantly, it also includes a full scale event venue at the mouth of the cave, which looks out onto the sunken woodlands. It exists because during the 1930’s, 40’s, and 50’s the venue was constructed to be a jazz and big band night club, and has now been renovated to accommodate a variety of events. The uniqueness of the space also shields it from the elements - as the low and shaded cave stays out of the rain and doesn’t rise above a temperature of 70 degrees. We were sold on the venue immediately, and hope you enjoy it as well!

What is the dress level for the wedding?

Answer

Semi-formal / cocktail attire. As noted in the description of Lost River Cave, you do not have to worry about high temperatures or rain as much as you normally would for an outdoor wedding in the late summer. However, be aware that the ceremony will be outside and not on a paved surface, so high heels are not recommended.

Will transportation be provided?

Answer

Yes. We have made hotel blocks at the Holiday Inn University Plaza, which is located alongside several other hotels, the Home2 Suites, and the Holiday Inn Express. We will have a charter bus service to all three hotels. It will shuttle multiple times to the venue before the ceremony begins, and periodically back throughout the evening as the on-site reception goes on until midnight. Also at the venue site, there will be golf carts making rounds between the parking and the event if you would prefer not to walk the short distance.

When do I need to RSVP and book a hotel room?

Answer

Please RSVP on this website by August 13, and, if you would like to book a room in our hotel wedding block, please do so by then as well.
