Iowa State Fair
Voted the best state fair in the country by Erica! Her family has been enjoying the fair every year since she can remember, and it's where she was lucky enough to score her first paying job. Rox only has a few years under his belt, but he's already well versed in the must eat food and must see sights. It starts the Thursday before the wedding, and would be a great day trip for the whole family!
Des Moines Farmers Market
This is a Saturday outdoor market that offers lots of fresh produce, gifts, food trucks, live music, and more! It gets crowded later in the day, so we'd recommend getting their early. Also, be sure to check out the website for some options on parking.
Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden
We haven't had a chance to get to the botanical gardens yet, but we have heard great things! It's beautiful, and a great activity for families.
Blank Park Zoo
We love the zoo! It's a great size to take the whole family, lots of great animals to see but easy to walk around. They also have a train ride around the zoo, which is a lot of fun for the little ones. Tip - if you purchase tickets online, they offer a discount.
Des Moines Breweries
There are so many great breweries around the Des Moines Metro. Some of our favorites are Exile (which has amazing food as well), Peace Tree, Madhouse, and 515.
