Reserve a time to explore the redwood forest, recovering from the CZU fires. Experience a unique ecological process and the "poodle trees" that are only seen in post wild fire forests. Redwoods are so resilient, you can see this for yourself in the many giants that are still standing and flourishing with new growth at their bases.
This state park has wonderful old growth redwood trees and is a great place to hunt for mushrooms at the end of mushroom season in January. Look out for the "cowboys handkerchief" near the ranger's station.
This is my favorite historical site in the valley, distinguished by the James Dean painting that is first seen when driving by on highway 9. The history of this place is fascinating, from old Hollywood visitors to bootlegging. The newly renovated bar is a local hang out... for ghosts!!
A list of recommendations wouldn't be complete without a tavern, right? This brewery is nestled in the SLV mountains in scenic downtown Felton. It was established by fellow SLV alumni, and features great craft beers and food.
This is one of my favorite hiking places. A secret spot to find cute mushrooms, and you can check out the ruins of the historical lime kilns. Up the hill from the lime kilns is an area that was severely damaged by the CZU fires.
This is a good tourist destination with gift shops and restaurants. It is one of our favorite places to have a celebratory dinner. Stagnaro Brothers is our top pick! If you hear strange barking noises its either the sea lions or Paul. Look under the wharf through the observation holes to see who it is.
