The one where Erica didn’t know.

How we met back in September of 2017.

Brice is driving home with Elyse, friends since high school & have remained close ever since, when they drove past the famous Party Rentals truck. Cue in conversation about Erica and how amazing she is (I wasn’t there but I am sure that’s what was discussed) and planned a cute trip to introduce them. On the flip side: Erica, Ashley and Elyse met in college and we havd been creating amazing stories ever since. That September, Erica had been finding ways to explore Arizona and try new things when Ashley and Elyse invited Erica to a weekend kayaking trip in Prescott with “one of their friends”. (I swear that’s all they shared…) Erica absolutely agreed and had a surprising weekend off from work. Erica was NOT about to get in a kayak with a stranger, and she did NOT put on the charm. In Brice’s eyes, this girl was terrible and shifted the weekend to “just have fun” (I mean at least the pressure is off, right?!). A few caramel apple whiskeys, some Live PD, and absolutely no pressure to be on a date, the rest of the group decided a nap was in store except Erica and Brice. Cue getting to know each other, laughing & having a great time before heading to downtown. At a speak easy over old fashions, Erica learned the Belling roots in Wisconsin, his shared interests of the Packers, engineering & architecture, & ASU. However let’s be real, Erica probably talked his ear off about everything from beer to weddings. We took one cute picture & went on our merry ways… sort of Fast forward all the way to November. Instagram DM. Flirting. Erica needed to fill a last minute opening at a fundraising table, so Elyse and Brice were up. With 4 hours to get a suit and make it downtown (See, Brice, nothing has changed), we were helping the kids. Led to drinks at Hanny’s, a first kiss at Copper Blues, one of the best brunches, an art festival, a birth birthday first date (where the truth finally came out about the kayaking trip), meeting Belle, Fiesta Bowl & the Waste Management Open.

The one with the ring.

Our engagement on Christmas day, 2020

Brice knew he wanted to marry Erica for a while, but a global pandemic threw a wrench into the plans of a vacation proposal. But a Christmas and New Years trip to Durango Colorado with Brice's family presented the perfect opportunity to get it done. As usual, Brice procrastinates everything, and as usual, Brice is not a good liar. Less than a week before leaving for the trip, Brice went to get a hair cut at his sister Jessica's salon. Jessica had already completed a scouting mission to find out what type of ring Erica would like, so before cutting Brice's hair, the two went ring shopping. Knowing that Erica would be suspicious as to why this hair cut was taking so long, Brice had the great idea to stop sharing his location with Erica so she would not see that he was at jewelry store. Brice, a novice iPhone user, was unaware that ending the location sharing actually sent a notification to Erica, tipping her off that something was up. Brice tried to cover and say that he was shopping for her Christmas present (not technically a lie) and that he didn't want it to be obvious, but Erica was still suspicious. Luckily Brice's procrastination did not interfere with the plan and the ring was ready the day before they left for Colorado. Fast forward to Christmas morning, Erica got her hopes up that the ring might be wrapped in one the the boxes under the Christmas tree, but as each present was opened, she realized that there wasn't a ring under the tree for her. She shrugged it off and thought maybe it would happen on New Years. But still on Christmas morning, after eating breakfast, the family went down the street to take group pictures at an over look of the city with the snow-capped Rocky Mountains in the background. It was in the car ride there that Erica figured it out. As the family cycled through different combinations for pictures, Erica's heart raced. Last up was Erica and Brice, who snapped a couple pictures, and then.... well you can probably figure the rest out.
