Megan's family, the Hoyles, have been coming to Shanksville for 52 years! While a bit off the beaten path, countless memories with generations of loved ones have been created at the Hoyle Cottage, and we can't wait to share our special place with you. Fun fact: Megan first invited Eric to the Cottage their junior year of high school :) He had no idea at the time he'd be getting married in a barn across the street.
Summer Formal Ladies - Longer dresses preferred, and welcome colors, patterns, and fun! Gents - Suits please. Footwear: Ceremony will be in grass; recommend avoiding super high or stilletto heels Your comfort is the most important - keep it mind it is outside in July :)
The Welcome Bonfire is for anyone in town and looking to kick of the celebrating as soon as their boots hit the Shanksville soil. It is being held at The Cottage - Megan's family's house on Lake Stonycreek. There is no dress code - wear whatever is comfortable (it can get chilly at night), feel free to bring a bathing suit and take a dip in the lake and then warm up by the fire. Will be entirely outdoors. There will be snacks, smores, and alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. The lake has epic sunsets you wont want to miss! Parking is available though somewhat limited - carpooling encouraged. Roughly 7 min drive from the Wedding Venue. Come any time after 7 and hang until we kick you out!
The party continues! On Sunday come back to The Cottage for a reviving lake plunge, some breakfast bites, coffee, and who knows maybe even a little hair of the dog. We would love to get some bonus hang time with you - stay a while, the water is niiiiiiiice. Parking available but somewhat limited; carpooling where possible appreciated. Roughly 7 min drive from the Wedding Venue.
Transportation will be provided for all guests from Indian Lake Lodge, Somerset Resort, and Somerset Hotel Blocks to the Ceremony, from the Ceremony to the Afterparty, and home from the Afterparty. Transportation is not provided for Welcome Bonfire or Farewell Brunch - we encourage you to carpool where possible.
There are two possible scenarios - 1 - If you were shown an "Accommodation" and asked to RSVP "Will Attend" when you logged into our website, please follow the provided instructions to pay for your prearranged accommodation 2 - If you don't know what I'm talking about and were not asked to confirm an accommodation, please see our "Travel" page for info on available Hotel Blocks. Questions, comments, or concerns - hit Megan and Eric.
Please RSVP by May 1st so that we can accommodate for all of the logistical fun that comes with a rural wedding!
Yes. Please RSVP after receiving your formal invitation.
While we love your kiddos, our ceremony and reception will be adult-only.
Roundtrip shuttles provided from Accommodations to Ceremony, Ceremony to Afterparty, and Afterparty back to Accommodations. If you choose to drive separately, free on-site parking is also available for guests and you are free to leave your vehicle overnight and pick it up on Sunday.
The ceremony is a short walk through the grass from the parking lot - a golf cart will be available to shuttle people from the parking lot to the ceremony and from the ceremony up to the barn where the reception will be held.
