Thanks to the best man/Katy's cousin, Katy and Alex met while out at a bar in Indianapolis with the rest of Katy's siblings. The night ended at Alex's favorite bar, Tin Roof (a live music bar). After dancing to early 2000's music, the two parted ways, happy to make a new friend. A few months later, Alex ran into Katy at Brothers Bar watching the Colts Playoff game. Alex enjoyed seeing Katy again, and decided to see if she wanted to go on a date so he could explain the rules of football to her.

After three years of attempting a trip to California (thanks Covid!), Katy and Alex were finally able to make the trip out West in March of 2022. Katy's friends kept telling her that Alex was going to propose on vacation, but thanks to Alex's tactful planning, Katy was convinced it wasn't going to happen. Little did she know, Alex had a plan to propose in Manhattan Beach. Alex's sisters were in on the plan and were supposed to be on the beach 15 minutes early to take photos. However, due to a last minute scramble to find champagne, they were late and Alex had to create a diversion. Eventually, Alex ran out of distractions and he decided to take Katy down the beach with or without the photographers. Fortunately, Alex spotted his sisters running down the beach a few minute later. Unfortunately, they were running hysterically and waving a white towel above their head, drawing a lot of attention. Thankfully, Katy was none the wiser and was shocked when Alex got down on one knee and proposed. The pictures were fantastic, and Katy and Alex were so excited to celebrate with friends and family in California and back in Indiana!
