Our Story

We met in the summer before our sophomore year at Center Grove High School. We were 6 hours in to an 8 hour marching band practice, standing in a line about 10 feet apart on the 20 yard line of the football field. We had been running that opening for at least the last hour. One of us was clearing his throat very loudly before the start of every run (he had allergies and there was a lot pollen) and the other was feeling particularly sassy that day (it was 95 degrees that day and we'd been practicing on a black top parking lot for most of it). She turned around and cleared her throat back at him and gave him a look that said "if you don't figure it out my flag pole is coming straight for your mellophone". We instantly became friends and a quick "ahem" as we were setting up became our way of telling each other good luck before the show. We were dating other people at the time, but after those relationships ended, we realized there definitely a spark between us and a sense that this could be something very big. We stayed close friends throughout high school but didn't really have the guts to make it official until the summer before our senior year. Our first official date was DCI finals at Lucas Oil in 2014. Hannah moved to Florida after high school and we went our separate ways. We saw each other couple times over the years and stayed distant friends, building lives, careers, and friendships that will last a lifetime. In summer of 2022, we got together over a drink while Hannah was in town and it seemed like fate. From then on we flew back and forth between Indianapolis and Sarasota for a year before Hannah moved up to Carmel to be with Drew in October of 2023. We love our story and while there are always things we would change, our story is the epitome of the old saying, "If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it's yours." Not sure how many people in this life get to say their first love is also their last, but we are thankful to count ourselves among them.
