The Proposal

May 17th, 2025

May 17, 2025, began like any other special day, celebrating Navy's birthday! He had plans to golf with his Dude, Navy’s Grandfather, in Waynesville, his hometown, which seemed typical. Meanwhile, his sister, Island, offered to pick me up to go shopping in downtown Asheville before our dinner plans. I was proud of my “brilliant plan” to keep my dress wrinkle-free by opting for a workout outfit for most of the day. Only later to realize I just made it way more complicated lol! About 40 minutes into our drive, Island mentioned needing gas. Once we stopped, she suggested we get ready there to avoid stopping again. Oblivious to any underlying plans, I agreed. So, in a gas station bathroom, yes I got ready for my proposal in a gas station bathroom— we changed into our dresses, did our makeup, and fixed our hair, looking back an unconventional but VERY memorable preparation. Once we got back in the car, Island received a call from Giggy, Navy's grandmother, who had “forgotten Navy's birthday gift at home”. She asked if we could pick it up before dinner. I made it easy on them and said "yes of course" without hesitation. On the ride to Giggy and Dude's house, I was chatting away when Island stopped the car mid driveway. She pointed out someone in the field. It took a second to register, but I looked and saw Navy standing under a grand, beautiful tree, with a path mowed through the grass leading to him. I then realized, eeek I was about to be proposed to!!! In that moment, I honestly blacked out, but somehow stepped out of the car barefoot, and walked through the field toward him. He asked me to marry him, and of course I said yes. It was the most thoughtful and heartfelt proposal EVER!!!!! But the surprises didn't end there. As we drove back to Knoxville, Navy revealed that our family and friends had gathered at Neyland Stadium for an engagement party. Walking into the stadium, surrounded by our loved ones, I felt an overwhelming sense of joy and love. It was, without a doubt, the most perfect day!!!! And honestly, I can’t stop bragging about Navy. He’s the guy who thinks through every detail, making each moment feel intentional and special. He makes those around him feel valued and seen and I feel so lucky to have him by my side forever!!!!
