February 2014- I was living in McKinney at the time with two of my best friends, and Tyler had just moved back to Sherman from Oklahoma. Valentines night my friend called me about a horrible date she just had, I told her to pick up some cheap wine and come straight over. Once she got to the apartment we opened the wine and starting talking about all our past relationships and how hard it is to find a good guy! She mentioned a trying a dating App, but would only do it if I did too. After our second bottle, I agreed... The App was, obviously, designed where you swipe right if you like the person and left if you passed on them. Once you swiped right, it would let you know if that person swiped right on you too, and if you did then you could chat. Well... we swiped right on every person. Let me tell you, there were some strange guys and some questionable pick up lines they started with. Fast forward days later. I got onto the App to delete it when I got one more message from a guy in Camo, Tyler Perkins. His message read, "Howdy!"... If you know me, then you know I immediately laughed when I read that. We ended up messaging back and forth for a couple days nonstop. Tyler kept insisting I was the ONLY girl he messaged on the App... Finally I decided to give him my phone number. About a month after that we met in person and went out on our first date to a movie in Plano. The movie was horrible! We were one of three couples in the empty theater! We laughed and talked the whole time while the other two couples were bickering back and forth to each other. After we left and he dropped me off at my apartment, we said goodnight and had our first kiss. (Tyler says I kissed him first but I don't remember it that way) I didn't know then that I had met my person, but we have been inseparable since that day. And Tyler STILL says I was the only girl he messaged on that App...
I had been waiting for this day with Tyler for years! Not only to be engaged to the absolute best man in the world, but to finally move out of Dallas and into a gorgeous home. We had lived in a 700 sqft, 1 bedroom apartment in North Dallas for about 4 years. Tyler grew up in Sherman, TX and was not a fan of living in a city... at all. We knew we'd be there for a couple years, while Tyler was finishing up his Engineering Degree. As soon as we knew he was graduating we immediately started looking at houses, literally ANYWHERE but Dallas. One night we happened upon a house in Anna, with a backyard we fell in love with. Y'all know that was the most important thing to us, Tucker was going to have the absolute backyard for frisbee and a place to actually be a dog! Once we came to see the house, we immediately knew this was it. A month later it was ours. We were moving in on a Monday and Tyler had to work all day. I took a half day (sorry Alton) and picked up the keys to start slowly moving some boxes in. It was July 1st and the HOTTEST day of the year. I was a hot, sweaty, nasty mess. After I moved in all the boxes I had in my car and sifted bug killer in our back yard, I went into our new bedroom and just laid on the carpet, starting at the ceiling. Finally I heard the garage door open and Tucker barking in excitement. I ran to the door, opening it to see Tucker with a blue note on his collar. I picked him up to read, "Guess what! He actually loves me!! but... Not as much as he loves you!! So..." *(Tyler always says "Tucker isn't his dog", or "I don't love him" as they cuddle)* I was so confused but had already started tearing up, when I turn and see Tyler on his knee. He had the sweetest speech but I don't remember it because all I keep repeating "No. This isn't happening. Oh my god, this isn't happening!" As I'm balling my eyes out. I finally calmed down and said YES! It was the absolute PERFECT proposal! Just our little family of 3, in our brand new house.
