When I started teaching, I met Jake my first day at Williston High School. Anne (our lovely coworker) walked up to me and asked if I'd met him yet. I had, and he seemed nice. She then asked if I had a boyfriend, which I did at the time. She was sad because she wanted to set us up. This was God's silly foreshadowing, because after 2 years of being friends and having classrooms across the hall from each other (and Jake patiently waiting), we started dating in August of 2020 (shortly after I moved 3.5 hours away, of course).
Jake asked if I wanted to go ring shopping one day while we were walking through Target, and I was so excited! After doing a bit of shopping around, we went to Zorell's in Bismarck and customized a ring together. Long story short, I knew he had the ring, I just didn't know when he'd actually propose (or how). Fast forward a few months, and we were just enjoying a relaxing Saturday at his apartment in Williston. I went into a different room and returned a few minutes later to notice my pup, Artie, sitting very nicely with his collar on with a little note attached to it. Jake was nowhere to be found. The note read "Can Jake be my dad?" And I said "yes, of course" when I heard a rustling behind me. I turned around, and there was Jake with the ring, going down on one knee. I asked if he was serious, because I was VERY surprised, and proceeded to just say "yes" over and over again. He put the ring on my finger, we hugged and smooched, and we were engaged! :D It wasn't until about 20 minutes later that I realized I cut him off before he could actually ask me to marry him, so I mentioned it to him. He looked at me from the other part of the couch and asked if I would marry him. I said "yeah, sure!" Afterwards, we went out for dinner, drinks, and a game and a half of bowling with friends. It couldn't have been more perfect. <3
