Love is a word that is often used, yet not always fully understood. When people are asked to define love, many describe it as a feeling, a choice, or a deep connection between two or more people. For much of their lives, both Emmanuel and Jenny understood love as something that not only grows over time, shaped by shared experiences and intentional care. What they did not yet know was how unexpectedly their own love story would be written... Emmanuel and Jenny first met in the fall of 2018 at the College of the Holy Cross. From the moment Emmanuel laid eyes on Jenny, he was hooked. Jenny’s intelligence, and radiant smile attracted him the most. Unfortunately at the time, Jenny held a firm belief that she would not date someone younger than her, even if it was only by a year. With that mindset, what could have been the start of something meaningful was placed on pause before it ever truly began. For a while, they remained simply acquaintances, cordial, connected by shared spaces but not yet by shared intention. It wasn’t until the spring of 2020 that their story took a turn. What began as a cordial invitation to a Bible study group slowly became something more. Through conversations rooted in faith, laughter, and genuine curiosity, Emmanuel and Jenny began to grow closer. There was an ease in their connection, something natural and unforced, that neither of them could ignore. Their first date became one of the many memories that would define the beginning of their relationship. Emmanuel took Jenny to Anokye Krom. Jenny did not know at the time that Emmanuel was already a regular there. Where else could you find Jollof rice in Worcester MA? Still, he carried himself as if it were his very first time asking questions, exploring the menu, and doing his best to make the experience feel new for both of them. It did not take long for Jenny to realize the truth, and the moment became one filled with laughter. Minutes turned to hours, which quickly turned to days, and they were always together. And then, just as their bond was forming, the world was put on pause. The COVID pandemic created distance in a way neither of them anticipated. For many, it became a time of separation. For Emmanuel and Jenny, it became the foundation of their relationship. Together, they made the intentional decision to step outside of their comfort zones and try long distance. What could have easily faded instead grew stronger. Through hours of FaceTime calls, gift packages sent back and forth, Netflix dates, and the consistent choice to show up for one another despite the distance, they both came to the realization that they did not want to do life without each other. Six years later, what began as a paused connection has grown into something steady, intentional, and deeply rooted. Through every season, Emmanuel and Jenny have continued to choose one another with patience, grace, and unwavering commitment. Now as God would have it, what once seemed unlikely became exactly what was meant to be. Their story now has shifted from man and woman, to husband and wife. As our relationship grew, so did our understanding of what love really means. We learned that love lives in the everyday moments — long conversations, shared faith, quiet support, and choosing one another even on hard days. Through it all, God remained at the center, guiding us and strengthening our bond. We have grown side by side through different seasons, learning how to support one another, celebrate each other, and build a life rooted in faith, respect, and friendship. Together, we have been reminded that love is about patience, grace, and showing up for one another daily. Now, as we prepare to begin this next chapter, we do so with grateful hearts. We are thankful for the love and support of our family and friends who have walked with us along the way. We cannot wait to celebrate this moment and continue our journey together.
