Emmanuel and Janel first met in the summer of 2014 while serving in the children’s ministry at their church. Over the years, the couple has enjoyed being classroom teachers, leading worship, and serving as small group leaders in the 3rd/4th grade classroom. Janel first caught Emmanuel's attention when she began leading worship. Her pretty smile, sweet and gentle voice during prayer, and willingness to serve by leading worship was what inspired Emmanuel to court Janel. At the same time, Janel was becoming an admirer of Emmanuel. His servant heart, devotion to praying for others, his love for children, and knowledge of the Bible all stood out to her. While serving in ministry together, they would often catch each other’s eyes and exchange smiles before Emmanuel asked Janel out on their first date. After this initial date, they both decided to seek the Lord to determine if it was His will for them to begin a dating relationship. After some time and the Lord's direction, they went on their second date. With continued service in the children’s ministry, fellowship with friends and family, and quality time spent together, they fell in love.
It was Emmanuel's desire to surprise Janel with his proposal. After much prayer, pre-marital counseling, and some ring shopping, he obtained a blessing from both of Janel's parents before creating a plan. His plan was to propose to Janel during a prearranged vacation to visit Janel's childhood best friend and her family. While visiting a local park and posing for cute pictures (with a secret professional photographer capturing the moment), Emmanuel dropped to one knee and asked Janel to be his wife. Janel was so excited and surprised, she immediately said “yes!” The couple started off their engagement with a surprise photoshoot and a lovely evening dinner with their close friends.
