Our Love StoryOur Love Story

"A WhatsApp status, a promise of homemade Jollof, and countless late-night calls later… here we are, five years on, ready to say “I do” to forever."

Back in September 2020, fate decided to slide into our lives through a simple WhatsApp status update. I was working far away from home on a short-term assignment, and Emmanuel’s childhood friend just happened to be my colleague. With just one week left before I headed back to Accra, our team decided to snap a few group photos to remember our time together. Little did I know, one of those pictures would be the start of something beautiful Our mutual friend posted the photo on his WhatsApp status, and somewhere in Accra, “Detective Emmanuel” spotted it. Let’s just say, he was intrigued (or as he likes to put it, “stunned by the beauty!” 😂). He immediately asked his friend for my contact. The next day, my friend told me, “Oh, by the way, I gave your number to my childhood buddy, Emmanuel. You should meet him when you’re back in Accra—you live in the same city.” I quickly made it clear: I’m not looking for a relationship right now. But my friend insisted, “No, you have to meet him—he’s a noble and kind gentleman.” Fast forward—I returned to Accra, promptly forgot to reach out, and carried on with life… until Emmanuel himself broke the silence. He suggested lunch, and I thought, “Why not?” From the moment we met, I knew there was something different about him. He was poised, funny, kind, and respectful. Then, somewhere between conversations, he mentioned, “I can cook Jollof for you sometime.” Hold up—he cooks too?! That was the icing on the cake! One Jollof date later, we were spending hours on the phone, sharing stories, dreams, and laughter. It didn’t take long before we became each other’s safe space, best friend, and biggest cheerleader. We both moved to Canada together two years later, juggled school, work and the challenges of long distance. Five years, countless calls, shared adventures, and yes—many more plates of Jollof later—we’re here, ready to say “I do” to forever. This is your sign to post your friends on your WhatsApp status. 💌📱lol
