Grant selected the newly opened Knickerbocker for our first date. It was the hottest place in town. It was only two days after the grand opening and it was during one of the "middle" weekends of ArtPrize in Grand Rapids. Meaning, the place was PACKED. The wait for a table was 1:45. So, we walked (in the rain) down the street to Harmony Hall. We sat and talked for two hours. I decided he "probably wasn't a serial killer".
Grant was "almost" a homeowner when he met Emmalilly. After he moved into his house he invited her over for stir-fry (the only vegetarian meal he could think of). There was no carpet in the house and no furniture. They ate dinner sitting in camp chairs on the cement. Emmalilly thought it would be great idea to invite Grant to attend the Michigan Brewers Guild Beerfest with her and her friends. When it came around to the weekend of the event many friends couldn't come. So, he got to meet Jody and Neal (her parents) and many other family friends instead. He showed off what a nice guy he his by letting people borrow his coat! Emmalilly and Grant both love bike riding, traveling, the outdoors, and hanging out with friends.
In early November 2018, the Hoxsie family convened in Colorado to celebrate an early Thanksgiving and to visit Madison. The first morning of the trip Grant and Emmalilly's sisters planned a group hike. We couldn't find the start of the trail and ended up walking around a closed ski hill. After reaching Ricky's Ridge (the top) and taking lots of group photos, Grant asked Emmalilly to come to one side and take a selfie with him. She responded, "Why?". But, she obliged and they took the selfie. He then got down on one knee, and totally surprised her! Lots of champagne followed.
