Playa Grande is a laid-back beach community known for its world-class surfing waves and role as a nesting site for endangered leatherback turtles. It is roughly 3 miles long and is part of the Las Baulas National Marine Park. The locals and tourists schedule their days around the beautiful sunsets. We look forward to seeing you at sunset on the our favorite beach.
As you walk out to the beach from the main road, Dante's Rock is to your right. If you are feeling adventurous, climb it for a great view especially at sunset. Continue walking past Dante's Rock and you will be at Playa Ventanas. At low tide, enjoy walking to the tide pools and exploring.
If you want to rent a surf board and/or a surf lesson, El Beach Club can set you up. It is located on the main road, you can't miss it. They serve great burgers here too. Also there is a small grocery store at the Beach Club.
Serves nutritious breakfast, lunch & dinner with friendly service. Pots & Bowls also has a shop where you can find products such as handmade mugs, soaps, jewelry, fashion, and art, all from local emerging artists.
Shopping, nightlife, city vibes, and restaurants. Take the river taxi ($2) across the estuary during the day (a 20-minute walk, followed by a 5-minute boat ride) or take a taxi by road (a 30-minute drive) from Playa Grande. Please don't walk across the estuary, and if you take the river taxi over then be sure you are aware of the time the taxis stop shuttling back.
