The Ackland Art Museum at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill offers a wide range of exhibitions from its holdings of over 17,000 works of art, from contemporary American photography to European master paintings, and from video installations to Early Modern portraits. In addition, the Ackland has North Carolina’s premier collections of Asian art and works on paper (drawings, prints, and photographs). Admission is free.
The Botanical Garden, one of the largest natural botanical gardens in the southeast, features nature trails, perennial borders, aquatic plant displays, and herb gardens. The garden highlights native North Carolina ecosystems from the mountains to the coastal plains and includes a carnivorous plant collection. The North Carolina Botanical Garden is free to the public.

The Carolina Inn, at 211 Pittsboro Street, on the UNC campus in Chapel Hill, hosts Fridays on the Front Porch, a free outdoor concert series generally highlighting folk music and Carolina bluegrass, every Friday from April through October, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. It’s free to attend.
Carolina Basketball Museum, located on the ground floor of the Ernie Williamson Athletic Center, celebrates the rich history of the University of North Carolina men's basketball program. The museum experience begins with a presentation and includes video tributes to Dean Smith; Roy Williams ‘72, ‘73 (M.A.); Tyler Hansborough ‘09; Michael Jordan ‘86; and all aspects of UNC basketball through videos, photos and statistical and informational panels that highlight the greatest games and most exciting finishes in Tar Heel history.
