The Story of the Pinecone

Jacob and Emma had their first date on December 3, 2022. The plan was simple: coffee in Murray, Kentucky, enjoy the city's Christmas parade, and stargaze in Land Between the Lakes. Well, as luck would have it, the coffee shop was full of students "studying" for finals, so the couple settled on a place in Murray called Mugsy's Hideout. Emma, ever a fan of Eminem and pasta, got "Mama's Spaghetti." Jacob was instantly smitten with the courage it took to throw down with spaghetti on a first date. After standing, freezing, and huffing diesel fumes from the parade floats, the couple bundled up and headed to the woods between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. The couple parked near a pine tree in a quiet field and talked for hours as the temperature dropped to the teens and frosted every blade of grass surrounding the truck bed. The two talked about careers, goals, interests, and visions of the future. Emma was enamored with Jacob's tree knowledge, and Jacob enjoyed sharing it—going as far as to identify the tree they sat beside as a loblolly pine. After nearly getting frostbite, the couple decided to pack up their nine-hour first date, but not before Jacob walked to the pine tree to make a point about the cones. He pointed out the spines on the cone and the shape. After sharing the details with Emma, Jacob tossed the cone aside as the two walked back to the truck. The next day, Emma texted Jacob and told him that she wished she'd thought to pick up the cone. The couple knew that each other was different from the dates who came before, so they wanted something by which to remember the occasion. Not one to miss too many hints, Jacob returned to the site the next day, retraced his steps, found the exact cone he'd tossed aside, and brought it back to Emma on December 7, the day he asked her to be his girlfriend. Thus began the tale that brings us together to celebrate Mr. and Mrs. Pease. Thank you for taking the time to come celebrate this occasion. We are truly blessed to have you in our lives, and we are thankful for each and every one of you. In some way, you have made a profound impact on us. You have enriched us, supported us, loved us, and now celebrate us as we take the next step in our journey together. From the bottom of our hearts—thank you.
