Officially, we met in school - orchestra class in 2015 to be exact. Emma a timid 7th grader and Ian was a chatty 8th grader who just happened to be in the same music class. Unofficially, our families have crossed paths many times - Ian's mother and Emma's grandmother were both heavily active in the local theater community and worked together. Until 2019, we didn't really connect. Up until high school, we'd just see each other in passing MAYBE sharing a word or two. We ended up getting closer quite literally at the end of Emma's 10th grade year and Ian's 11th grade year. At that point in the school year, we already had our spring concert and there wasn't anything more we could do in orchestra besides hang out. There was a small practice room connected to the classroom that was mainly used for extra instruments, stands, and a small piano. One day, Emma ended up hanging out in there with a few other kids playing the piano and Ian (probably conjured by someone's bad piano playing) walked in and started playing an insane Liszt etude. The next day, we both came back to that piano in that spare room and just started talking and talking and talking. And as they say...the rest is history!
