From Day One

September 8, 2014

Dylan and Emma met at Carthage College while talking to a mutual friend. Neither of them brought their best looks to the table as Dylan had not cut his hair or trimmed his beard for four months (for theatre purposes) and Emma was likely day two or three into her dry shampoo use (out of pure laziness). Nevertheless, Emma received a Facebook friend request from Dylan shortly after their parting though she did not remember giving her name. They spoke frequently and spent time doing homework together with friends in the Student Union. One day, Dylan returned to his dorm to find a folded piece of paper in his notebook. He opened the paper to discover Emma's phone number! From there they began to spend time together without their mutual friends, sharing stories about their childhoods and families. They had been spending quite some time together when Emma asked the inevitable question, "So what are we?" It was then that they realized they have probably been dating for while now but didn't really know when it had happened. Exactly three years later, and Dylan and Emma are getting ready to travel to Wisconsin Dells for Emma's birthday, as they have done the two years before. They spent the day at the Kalahari waterpark, Dylan frequently checking his watch. Emma thought nothing of it as they had plans to go to dinner and were both punctual people. Emma was taking her time with her makeup and Dylan was (seemingly) passing time on his phone. After each process, Dylan would kindly ask, "Alright. Are we ready to go?" Finally, Emma put on her shoes and jacket, and they walked out the door. As they were approaching the lobby of the hotel, Dylan asked Emma, "Are you ready?" From there, they enter the lobby, and Dylan waves to a man on the second floor balcony. The man says, "Dylan and Emma, this one's for you." Suddenly, the rest of the a cappella group Fundamentally Sound from UW-Madison appear and start singing "Teenage Dream." Down on one knee, a proposal followed. She said yes.
