It all started with a hockey roster... Before Emma moved into Concordia University in January, she went with her dad, who was coaching the men’s Concordia hockey team, to watch their first game of the season at the rink. Before they went, she and her friend, out of curiosity, looked through the roster and immediately noticed one player Emma thought was really cute: Derek. After seeing his roster picture, she looked him up on social media to learn more about him. Although she thought he was cute, she assumed he probably had a girlfriend, so she did not think much of it and figured she might see him around campus someday. A couple months later, Emma officially moved in, and a week before classes started, Derek was actually one of the first people she met on campus besides her teammates. They met in the cafeteria, and because Emma’s friend already knew Derek, she introduced them. Shortly after, Derek texted Emma’s friend asking about her, so she gave him Emma’s Snapchat. From that point on, he was determined to get to know her, and Emma was shocked by how much of a coincidence it all was. They got to know each other through texting and hanging out in friend groups together. A week later, they hung out for the first time alone and ended up talking for hours. They quickly realized the connection they had and how naturally they clicked. What Derek did not know was that Emma had already stalked his social media, looked through his hockey roster picture months earlier, and had already picked him out long before they officially met. He still does not completely believe it. Not long after that, on March 17, 2022, they officially started dating. They spent all throughout college together, shared some of the most fun years of their lives, and made so many lifelong memories along the way. Then, after they graduated, Derek proposed on September 13, 2025. What started with a hockey roster picture turned into the best love story, and they cannot wait for the next chapter.
