A short version: We met at a Hillel dinner at Brandeis University in early 2020, and have been practically inseparable ever since. The longer version starts back in 2017. Emma did a Jewish teen leadership program based in Chicago, and a year later, Char did the same program across the ocean, based in the UK. In 2019, while working as a counselor for the program, Emma met a mutual friend who introduced us, knowing we were both queer Jewish women heading to Brandeis (as queer Jewish women often do). Our first missed connection was participating in the program at different times. Our second was starting university: Emma studied abroad in London just as Char left Manchester to come to Boston. Our airplanes probably crossed over the ocean, Emma says. In Spring 2020, Emma arrived on campus, met a mutual Habo friend, and suddenly Charlotte Cooper was sitting next to her at Shabbat, complimenting her eyebrows. We haven't missed a chance to sit together at a Shabbat table since. Covid could have been our third missed connection, but instead, we crossed international borders, tested the limits of our Brandeis Zoom licenses, and chose each other. Since then, we've dedicated our time, energy, and silly goofy early twenties to building a life together. Now in Nashville, doing Jewish nonprofit work, surviving a doctoral program, and feeding endless veggies to the light of our lives (our bunny, Archie), we’re legally married and are excited to have our full circle moment under the Chuppah in front of our friends and family.
In January of 2025, in anticipation of the Tr*mp administration, we got married in a small and lovely ceremony with close friends and family, officiated by our friend Carson. Char proposed that morning (it was Emma's idea), and thus we became "Wifeancees." Because we are extra and surprisingly religious (as someone once described Emma), we can't wait to welcome you to our Nashville Jewish community and have the big queer Jewish wedding of Tr*mp's nightmares <3
