It all started in accounting class our freshman year at The University of Kansas. Brett knew my best friend Madeleine, and that’s how we first crossed paths. One day after class, I was walking to grab my usual burrito bowl, and Brett invited himself along. At the time, I wasn’t single, so I didn’t think much of it. We made small talk as we walked to the counter, I grabbed my bowl, and then hurried off to catch the bus. I would come to find out years later that Brett had said he hoped to find a girlfriend like me. Apparently, he liked how much I talked—shocker, right? Junior year came around, and I was now single. Brett was still friends with Madeleine (who was now dating his cousin) so he invited me to a date party, and I figured it would be a good opportunity to just socialize with my friends. As we spent time together that night, I realized there was more to Brett than the frat boy reputation I’d heard about. A week later, on game day, we found ourselves at a bar with friends, but the whole time, we ended up talking about our families, our goals for the future, vacations we wanted to take, and just life in general. I started wondering if he was too good to be true. Two weeks later, Brett asked me to be his girlfriend. Three years after that, at the top of the LondonHouse in Chicago, he asked me to be his wife. What I didn’t know at the time was that Brett had these plans all along. We went ring shopping a year prior, and he said that he knew he wanted to propose in Chicago during the holidays, because it's my favorite. He didn't even know that when I was younger I googled proposals at the LondonHouse, and he truly made my dream a reality. Behind closed doors, we’re the loudest, goofiest couple—always laughing, always up for a late-night sweet treat run or an impromptu vacation. He’s the kind of person I never thought I’d find—someone who talks more than I do, who’s just as loud and spontaneous as I am, and who makes life so much more fun. I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing person to go through life with, and we can’t wait to continue our love story as husband and wife (and Marci and Mae!)
