In light of COVID-19, our wedding plans set to take place on May 23rd, 2020 have changed. For the safety of our loved ones, we have decided to wed with a small family ceremony. We plan to have a reception at a later date this summer. A formal invitation will follow. Thank you for understanding. We can't wait to celebrate with you soon!
Everyone saw "us" coming before we did. For years, we went to church and homeschool co-op together. We slowly became a part of one another's memories, families, and lives long before we began dating. Looking back, God's sovereignty is so evident in our story. Philip became best friends with my brother, Luke, and began spending a lot of time at our house. We also shared many of the same friends. Through shared interests and passions, we truly became best friends. We always had a lot to talk about, made each other laugh and smile a lot, and challenged each other to be better and pursue God in a way no one ever had before. We bonded over a love for Cheerwine, Mere Christianity, and Ben Rector concerts. Even though we both stubbornly denied it (especially me) when people made hints about us, we obviously both had a long-time crush. When we were seventeen, Philip invited me to coffee in downtown Galax to "solve the world's problems together." Even though we had been friends for a while, we had never spent time alone, just us. After two hours of "solving the world's problems" and wondering through storefronts on an unusually warm and rainy late-December day, Philip FINALLY asked me what I would think about being his girlfriend. I said "I think I'd like that." The past four years have been full of transition, learning how to love each other, and leaning on the Lord. One of our favorite parts of our story is that we have grown up together. The years from 17 to 21 are crazy, but we have walked through them together--even though we spent most of them 260 miles apart. We can't wait to keep growing up and grow old together. We are just in awe of God when we reflect on the way He wrote our story. I've written a lot of stories, but this one will always be my favorite. It's way better (and more sappy) than any story I could make up. -Emma
