Nubble Lighthouse
The Cape Neddick Light or "Nubble" Light was put into use in 1879 and is still in use today. It is considered the most photographed lighthouse in the world. The lighthouse is inaccessible to the general public, but the nearby mainland is occupied by Sohier Park which offers a telescope with which to view the lighthouse. Nubble is one of the last eight lights in Maine to still have its Fresnel lens.
Ogunquit Beach
The southern coast of Maine is renowned for its white sandy beaches, and Ogunquit has 3.5 miles of sandy beaches and coastline. Though it may be too chilly to take a dip this time of year for most, its beautiful soft sand beach is a great place to walk, sit and relax, enjoy the breeze and the Maine coast.
Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge
The proximity of the refuge to the coast and its location between the eastern deciduous forest and the boreal forest creates a composition of plants and animals not found elsewhere in Maine. Major habitat types present on the refuge include forested upland, barrier beach/dune, coastal meadows, tidal salt marsh, and the distinctive rocky coast.
Sea Bags
Sea Bags takes sails and transforms them into nautically inspired totes and accessories, with several stores throughout Maine. Emily sails for their sponsored women's team which is recognized as one of the leading USA contenders in J/24 regattas.
Marginal Way
This famed, paved cliff walk meanders for a little over one mile along the ocean, from Perkins Cove to Shore Road right near downtown. Benches are available in many spots to take a rest, take a photo, or just breathe in the salt air and enjoy the crashing surf.
Mount Agamenticus
The Mount Agamenticus Conservation Region consists of more than 10,000 acres and is located within an additional 30,000 acre expanse of conservation land in southern Maine. This land is comprised of a rich and unique coastal forest that supports the highest diversity of animal and plant species in all of Maine. The mountain and the surrounding area provide residents with an ideal location for hiking, biking and sightseeing. You can drive to the top and visit several lookout points.
