Emily & Zach met on a dating app just almost before completely giving up. Zach and Emily chatted a tiny bit before meeting up. Emily was charmed by Zach telling her he was the kind of person that was very bright and social and simultaneously dead inside and Emily hooked Zach when he asked for her hot takes on "The Bachelor" and she replied by telling him that she believed the current bachelor had been "bigged," like Tom Hanks in the movie "Big." They met for the first time for breakfast at the Hi-way Diner in Lincoln on a Saturday. Zach did not realize that Emily lived in Lincoln (he lived in Omaha) but once he found out it was too late, Emily had already used "bigged" as a verb! We fell in love over shared weekends, bad movies, yummy food, karaoke, big & small adventures, meeting friends & family that felt almost immediately like home. Our relationship grew slowly and was well tended. Zach decided to move to Lincoln after two years together spending almost every weekend trading off cities. I don't think we could have ever predicted on that first date at the hi-way diner where it would take us. In this last 4 years we've taken multiple wonderful trips, puked through the Denver airport together (medics called, but we did make that flight home), gone through 3 moves, 3 job changes, laughed, sang, cried, ate, cooked, made a home and garden, celebrated, partied, cried with family and friends, we have experienced multiple family health crises, the welcoming of new lives & family members, and the loss of a brother. We have experienced so much love, joy, laughter and also held so much fear, pain, loss, and grief together. While we hope for an easier future (I bet you guys do too!), the way we navigate the hard times as a true team, committed to understanding and loving each new version of each other has made it clear that we want to keep doing it as long as we can. So somewhere in there we decided to get married, and we want to celebrate with you, the community who has held and supported us and helped to keep us afloat.
