After matching on a dating app, Yunyi and Emily set up their first date back in February 2021. The day before they were set to meet, Emily got so excited about a successful Home Goods haul that she slipped on ice while unloading the car. Even though it delayed their meeting by a few days, Emily likes to joke that was a moment of foreshadowing for a different type of fall to come. When they finally did meet, it was on the Chinese New Year, and Yunyi decided to order about 100 dumplings (obviously the key to Emily's heart). When they arrived to the restaurant to pick them up, they found out it was going to be a three-hour delay. Those hours passed in what felt like just minutes, the pair swapping stories about their childhoods across the world from each other, their travel dreams to visit all of the national parks, and their shared love of animals and nature. Countless road trips, beach walks, bbq dates, and--let's be real--thousands of dumplings later, Emily and Yunyi moved into their first home together in Melrose in August 2022. It wasn't long before they decided to fulfill a lifelong dream they both had to adopt a dog. On a Thursday that December, Emily sent Yunyi a picture of a moppy little fluffball waiting for them in Philly, and by Saturday they were on their way down to go get their newest family member, Sunday. A year later, on a rainy day in Everglades National Park, after spotting alligators, dolphins, and even manatees, Yunyi got down on one knee and asked Emily a very important question. The couple celebrated her resounding, shrieking yes by skipping around the pond in their matching raincoats (don't worry Sunday has one too). In honoring the couple's shy nature, they have decided to have an intimate ceremony for their immediate families, but are ecstatic to celebrate their marriage with their extended family and friends at their reception this August!
