Her View: The night was February 7th, 2025, year three of putting on the worldwide Night to Shine prom for individuals with special needs. The team and I had been planning this event for roughly nine months, and it was set to be the best year yet! I was focused and prepared to make sure the night went smoothly, which required a lot of walking. This was so eloquently pointed out when a guy on security stopped me and said, "Wow! You are really getting your steps in!" I thought that was a weird comment, but said yes, and hustled to my next stop of the night. A couple of hours later, I was absolutely exhausted and we were getting everything packed away. I was hoping for a minute to myself when this security guy decided to make more small talk. Boy am I grateful that rolling my eyes did not turn him off! By the end of the night, he had my number, and two short days later he asked me out. Before I said yes, I shared a list of reasons why he might not want to pursue a relationship with me, but he said it was worth the risk. We have talked every day since! His View: I was volunteering as security at Night to Shine for my second time. I was talking with Emily's brother, Josh, when I made a comment about her. He informed me that she was single and that changed my plans for the evening. I spent the next little while trying to come up with a way to talk to her. She was finally walking my way and I thought it was my chance. As she was walking past I said, "Wow, you are really getting your steps in". To which she responded "uh-huh" and proceeded down the hallway...strike one. The rest of the night went on with little interaction between us, but I was still determined for a second chance. Late into the evening as we were cleaning up, I saw an opportunity to walk with her down the hall, just the two of us. To this she rolled her eyes and proceeded to walk away. Wasn't looking good, but I pressed on. We made some small talk which resulted in me getting her number "for a group activity" but I still called it a win. Once I finally got the courage to text her a couple days later I was able to ask her out and luckily for me she said yes! Not a day has gone past that we haven't talked. Engagement: We got engaged on March 14th, 2026, one day before being official for one year! I had been going back and forth all week if Trent was going to propose that week, but I knew that my heirloom ring was taking time to build, so I wasn't sure. Trent and I were supposed to meet up with friends for dinner, but while there was a "delay," Trent decided we needed to see what fishing boats were out as fishing had just opened up. After being told, "There might be boats a little further that way" a couple of times, I knew he was proposing! Needless to say, we were both very excited! We look forward to the many adventures to come as our life together is just beginning! Thank you for being apart of the journey!
