Things To Do

Lake Placid Olympic Center

Lake Placid Olympic Center

2634 Main Street, Lake Placid, NY 12946

Home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, Lake Placid is the only place (outside of Europe) that has hosted the Winter Games twice! Visit the Olympic Center to see where the U.S. Men's hockey team toppled the Soviet Union's in 1980.

High Peaks Information Center and the ADK Loj

High Peaks Information Center and the ADK Loj

1002 Adirondack Loj Road, Lake Placid, NY 12946

The High Peaks Information Center, or "HPIC", is adjacent to the Adk Loj and is open year round in order to provide hikers with a plethora of information and resources. Newly renovated, HPIC has served as the base camp and home base for many of our hikes. Walk around, visit Heart Lake, and enjoy your visit to the high peaks region!

Whiteface Memorial Highway

Whiteface Memorial Highway

Whiteface Memorial Highway, Wilmington, NY 12997

Drive to the top of Whiteface Mountain to check out the views from one of the High Peaks without having to hike the whole way! Bring a lunch, or visit the Castle Cafe while you're there. Just remember to bring shoes to walk the .2 miles up the Stairway Ridge Trail to access the full summit.

Big Mountain Deli & Crêperie

Big Mountain Deli & Crêperie

2475 Main Street, Lake Placid, NY 12946
, (518) 523-3222

This deli has 46 different types of crepes and sandwiches, one named after every Adirondack high peak. Our favorite local lunch spot - just be mindful that seating is limited and they are always busy.

Big Slide Mountain

NY 12943

If you do want to take on the adventure of conquering a high peak while you're there, we recommend Big Slide mountain. While this is not the shortest or easiest of the high peaks, it is one of our favorites and has AMAZING views. There are a couple of different routes to take while hiking this peak, but our favorite is a loop trail heading past John Brooks Lodge on the way up and to then come back down the Three Brothers.

For all the days along the way
