The old Mary Fields School is a two-room schoolhouse that was made famous in the book "The Water is Wide” by Pat Conroy. Conroy wrote about his experience teaching on the island. In the schoolhouse you'll find the School Grounds Coffee shop fas well as Daufuskie Blues, a small indigo-dying studio.
Authority of Gullah culture, Sallie Ann Robinson is a sixth generation native Daufuskie Islander. Daufuskie Island's only native professional guide, her tours are offered Tuesdays through Saturdays, beginning at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
