South Indian Wedding Ceremony: Order of Events

OUTDOORS: Groom’s Arrival (Baraat) The bridal parties and guests take a vibrant procession around the outside of the venue in the groom's chariot of choice with music and dancing. Kashi Yatra Ritual about choosing married life. Garland Toss and Oonjal Ceremony (Swing Ceremony) The couple is blessed with songs, flowers, and rice for balance and harmony. SKYLIGHT BALLROOM (INDOORS): Kanyadaanam The bride’s parents formally give her hand in marriage. Mangalya Dharanam (Tying of the Thali) The key moment of the wedding: when the sacred necklace is tied. Akshathai Blessings Guests shower the couple with flowers. Sapthapadi (Seven Steps) Seven symbolic vows taken together. Final Blessings Elders bless the newly married couple. Wedding Lunch Traditional vegetarian meal to celebrate. The ceremony will take about 1.5-2 hours. You are more than welcome to come in/out if you need to stretch or use the bathroom. There will be a coffee/tea/mango lassi station set up outside of the ceremony ballroom.

Are Children Invited to the Wedding?

Children will be invited to the ceremony, but we have decided to make our reception adult-only. If you plan to bring children to the ceremony, please let Emily or Prash know.

What is the Deadline to RSVP?

Answer

Please RSVP by Sunday, August 9th. If you are planning to book in the hotel block, please book by Wednesday, August 12th (it could fill up before this date so book ASAP if you plan to stay in the hotel block).
